I love done, dones!!!

And this week I have 2!!

Orca Bay

I am super happy with this one.  It turned out to be a bit bigger than I thought it would, so now it's really too big for a knee quilt for driving...Oh, well!  Guess that means another quilt to make!  Oh, no!!  lol

I think I got all the colors in there, though!

Look, that green does exist in nature!  Perfect!
I even ordered up a stripey sky to match the string blocks.  How 'bout that.

I also got the little Ocean Waves all done

Oops I forgot to turn the photo.  So it defies gravity and hangs perfectly sideways!

Close-up of quilting I finally did!

Very simple, but I like it!

End today with pictures of cute, lazy dog...

We were watching the sunset together!

Cheers,
Sarah

Orca Bay...Better done than big.

I decided to let this one be smaller.
It will be my car quilt, because my knees always get cold on long trips and I have been meaning to make something for that!
Almost done...Just the final borders to apply.

Kinda funny was how my design wall looks, really.
Here, I backed up a bit.

Do you stack up on your design wall or do you finish one thing at a time, like a sensible person?

Cheers,
Sarah

Hooray for O'Bay!

Sewed a bunch yesterday on Orca Bay.

Just to get together the various parts I had made so far...

The colors I chose were inspired by the drive I make several times a week, from Pacifica down to Half Moon Bay.  I am often in awe of the sheer number of greens that are to be seen and of course, the ocean, the sky and the incredible rock formations along Devil's Slide.

Plus, hey, look, strings!

This road will be closed to cars at some point this year, I think...A tunnel is being built through the mountain for the highway to bypass Devil's Slide and this will be the "old" part of Highway One to be made into a bicycle road/path!  I will miss the drive so much along here...I guess I better get a bike!

Cheers,
Sarah

Ouch (YAY) Ouch (YAY)!!

Well, it's been about 3 weeks since I had breast reduction surgery and I am just now finally feeling almost back to normal.  Can't lift much of anything yet still, but more than that has been the absolute inability to concentrate on much of anything at all.

Luckily, I have had the Orca Bay mystery calling to me (Hellooooooo...Sarah!  Come back to meeeeee!)  on a regular basis, so I've been plugging away at that  a bit at a time.

Voila!  My convalescent sewing center in my room!  Doesn't that look inviting?!

I got some of each step done...

Was just not feelin' the purple.  At all.

So I did some in blue...

Hmmmm.

Duh.

So, now I'm doing blues and planning on gradating them from mostly lights to darker as I go.
No idea of the pattern yet, but think (hope!) it might look good to vary the shades down the quilt.

Only 3 more days 'til Christmas now.  (helloooooo!)
Good thing I'm waking up now!

Happy Holidays to you all!

Love,
Sarah

Dancing Around Orca Bay

I had to pick the colors to use for my Orca Bay Mystery quilt.

I also had to go pick up my youngest from a playdate, but on the way, I saw these colors

which broken down, is a lot of purple and blue and peach and pink and a bit of yellow.
Gorgeous.
It's a lot like Bonnie's picture of Orca Bay.
But I don't have the right colors in my stash right now.
And I don't like my reds either.

hmmmmm.

Then I drove my other son to hockey and saw these colors

Let's see brown, green, neutral and blue.
That could work.
I have a lot of those.

But I don't want blue right now, so...

I will try a bit of purple instead.

We'll see how that plays out!

The husband likes it, which is lucky, since that's who will be getting this one when it's done!

Now to get started on my Step 1
244 quarter square triangles from the brown and neutral, coming up!

Hooray for Bonnie mystery quilt season!!!!!
My favorite time of year!
